Engineering Insights The Physics of Aerodynamic Screening: Water Rejection and Pressure Drop Optimization
Architectural facade design requires reconciling two opposing fluid dynamics principles: unrestricted volumetric air supply for technical cooling and absolute weather exclusion during wind-driven storms. Conventional stamped sheet louvers or basic inverted-angle grilles fail when faced with high wind shear, allowing micro-droplets to enter plant rooms, compromise chillers, and degrade sensitive electrical gear.
Our custom-engineered Aluminium Architectural Louver systems utilize multi-stage drainable extruded profiles. Water droplets carried by high-velocity wind streams strike internal deceleration hooks integrated within each blade profile, falling into vertical jamb gutters that discharge liquid safely to the facade exterior before moisture reaches the interior air envelope.
By engineering profile blade geometry with tailored discharge coefficients (Cd values ranging from 0.28 to 0.42), we allow commercial facilities to operate central HVAC plants at low static fan pressures, directly reducing cooling equipment energy draws during peak summer operational loads.
